Comprehensive Pain Treatment Center

The Comprehensive Pain Treatment Center at the Hospital for Joint Diseases offers both inpatient and outpatient diagnostic and treatment services to persons with pain. Patients with chronic pain are also evaluated for their potential to benefit from a rehabilitation program offered for inpatients and outpatients. Based upon the comprehensive assessment, the patient may be recommended for either individual therapy, therapy in a structured outpatient program, or therapy in the Inpatient Pain Rehabilitation Program.

Patients coming to the Center go through a comprehensive evaluation. Part of the assessment includes review of the patient's medical history, accompanying records, and a physical exam. This is done to establish the pain diagnosis, to assess the level of functional impairment, and to determine the nature and results of prior therapy. Prior to therapy, patients who have not yet had a diagnostic evaluation may need to have further tests done to establish the pain diagnosis.

Our mission is:

  • To relieve pain and restore the patients' quality of life through state-of-the-art, multidisciplinary treatments that address the specific needs of each pain sufferer.
  • To serve as a center of excellence for education and research on the management and cure of pain.
