Financial Assistance

NYU Langone Medical Center and its Harkness Center for Dance Injuries program are committed to serving injured dancers regardless of ability to pay. Our physicians donate their time for the professional services they provide at our Dance Clinic and we routinely help dancers identify whether they are eligible for Medicaid or other sources of financial assistance. Below is a list of the financial assistance programs we offer:

Charity Care

The NYU Langone Medical Center’s Hospital for Joint Diseases strives to provide medically necessary care to patients regardless of their ability to pay. The Hospital's financial assistance program is available to New York State residents and individuals, regardless of residency, who receive emergency services and who formally demonstrate an inability to pay their hospital expenses.

Individuals who are New York State residents or receive emergency services at the Hospital who are uninsured, have exhausted their insurance benefits or incur deductibles, co-payments or co-insurance costs which they are unable to pay, are eligible for financial assistance if they meet certain criteria.

This Policy covers all medically necessary services at Tisch Hospital, Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine and NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases. For purposes of this Policy, “medically necessary” shall be determined in accordance with Medicare guidelines.

Special Assistance Fund

In 1997, the LuEsther T. Mertz Advised Fund of the New York Community Trust made a challenge gift to the Harkness Center for Dance Injuries to create an endowment that would ensure a long-term solution for providing access to healthcare for dancers without insurance or financial means.

Dancers who formally demonstrate financial need are eligible for support by this endowment fund if they complete an application and submit proof of income, savings and expenses.
