Learning changes behaviors and influences higher quality patient care

We believe that education is a dynamic process that continues throughout an individual’s life span. It occurs via the ongoing interactions between individuals and their environment. Teaching is directed towards the facilitation of learning. Teaching/learning is an interactive partnership, which permits the mutual expression of the inner potential for expansion of knowledge, insights, and meaning concerning human development, growth, and need satisfaction. When learning takes place, there is a change in the individual’s cognitive, affective and psychomotor behaviors in the direction of growth and improved performance.

Orientation

Planned competency-based orientation is provided to new hires and tenured transferred or promoted employees. Orientation programs are designed to meet individual needs and are enhanced with a preceptorship model. Educators work along side new staff to ensure that they are fully supported in their new roles. Continued guidance and support of the novice nurse is achieved through our redesigned mentorship program.

Continuing Professional Development/Education

A full range of education programs are provided on an ongoing basis. These range from specialty or clinical specific to leadership development. Through the 1199 Collective Bargaining agreement, staff RNs enjoy the benefits of participating in various development/academic programs.

Tuition Reimbursement

Reimbursement is available for qualified staff of up to $5,000.00 per year toward position related courses and degrees at any accredited institution.
