Letter from David A. Dibner, SVP
Welcome to NYU Langone Medical Center’s Hospital for Joint Diseases, and our journey towards being a truly world-class, patient-centered, integrated academic medical center.
We continue to be recognized for delivering the best in bone and joint care, as reflected in U.S. News and World Report’s Best Hospitals rankings. HJD was once again ranked among the leading hospitals in the country, for both orthopaedic surgery and rheumatology.
We have also continued to expand and evolve our services in order to provide the most comprehensive, state-of-the art medical and surgical care. Our orthopaedic surgeons are leaders in minimally invasive orthopaedic surgery, including minimally invasive anterior total hip replacement, as well as in other surgical and nonsurgical interventions for the full spectrum of orthopaedic conditions from necks and shoulders to spines, hips and ankles. Minimally-invasive procedures provide many benefits to the patient, including less surgical trauma, a reduced hospital stay, an accelerated recovery, reduction in pain, and a more rapid return to activities of daily living. In addition, the re-opening of the Samuels Orthopaedic Immediate Care (iCare) Center in January provides adult and pediatric patients a unique facility for urgent treatment of injuries.
As always, the patient is our first priority – so we’ve launched an initiative to further enhance the patient experience, from the minute you walk through the door, until the time your care ends. This initiative is brought to life through enhancements in our clinical services as well as two innovative new programs:
- The Guided Preadmission Services (GPS) program focuses on further improving patient communications through a personalized service that sets clear expectations for a surgical patient’s hospital stay as well as planning ahead of time for a safe and smooth discharge.
- "Just Say Yes", a program that fosters an environment of superior service by helping to ensure that our staff provide personalized, sensitive, and compassionate care that meets and exceeds the unique needs of each patient at HJD
Finally, our cutting-edge orthopaedic research at the Center of Excellence on Musculoskeletal Disease translates scientific advances more swiftly into new ways of treating patients and diagnosing and preventing disease – every day.
We are proud of the advanced orthopaedic and rheumatologic care our doctors, nurses, therapists, and staff provide at HJD; we are also proud of our most important goal – to get you well.
