Visiting Hours & Policy
Hospital for Joint Diseases Orthopaedic Institute
301 East 17th Street
New York, New York 10003
212-598-6000 (General Information)
The presence of loved ones can have a positive effect on patients and can aid in the healing process. We encourage family, healthcare agents, partners or other surrogates to visit and participate in decisions, treatment and daily care plans as determined by the patient.
Each patient has the right to determine who may and may not visit, including but not limited to a spouse, domestic partner, (including same sex domestic partner), another family member, friend or surrogate. The hospital will not restrict, limit, or deny visitation privileges on the basis of age, race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, or disability.
It is preferred that only two visitors at a time are present at the patient’s bedside, except for private rooms. Children under the age of 16 who are visiting a patient may not be left alone with the patient.
Balloons are not permitted in patient care areas for safety reasons. Flowers and live plants are not permitted on some patient care units. Please check with nursing staff before bringing flowers or plants to patients.
Visiting Hours and Policy
We support the philosophy of open visiting hours (24 hrs/7 days) when possible. While a patient may request that a visitor remain at bedside at all times, in some cases this may not be possible, and modifications can be made based on clinical needs as identified by staff caring for the patient and/or patient preference.
“Regular visiting hours” are 10 am to 10 pm, except for designated “special visitation” areas; please download “Visiting Guidelines For Patients and Families” for further information on “special visitation”. Visitation is allowed during non-designated hours, based on patient need(s) and at the discretion of the care team.
Special procedures are in place during night-time hours, and visitors must be screened by security and receive a pass. Arrangements for overnight visitation should be made in advance with the care team.
Full visiting policies and guidelines are available by downloading our “Visiting Guidelines For Patients and Families” brochure.
